Hilaria Baldwin is speaking out about the ongoing allegations concerning her Spanish accent, asserting that being bilingual does not mean being inauthentic.

In the premiere episode of her family’s new TLC reality show, The Baldwins, Hilaria addressed the accusations that have followed her since 2020, when it was revealed that she was born in Boston instead of Spain.

The scrutiny intensified after a viral clip showed her seemingly forgetting the English word for “cucumber,” leading many to question the authenticity of her accent.

During the show, Hilaria shared her thoughts on the controversy, admitting that it has been hurtful and has affected her deeply. She said,

“I’d be lying if I said [the controversy] didn’t make me sad and it didn’t hurt and it didn’t put me in dark places.”

However, she stressed that her mixed heritage should be celebrated rather than criticized.

“I love English, I also love Spanish, and when I mix the two it doesn’t make me inauthentic; when I mix the two, that makes me normal,”

she explained.

Hilaria emphasized the significance of her community and family in shaping her identity. She pointed out that speaking multiple languages is a natural part of life for many and reflects a blend of cultural influences.
